Four Saturdays with Marc to bring a new dimension to your practice: Deepen your knowledge, intensify your experience, harmonise your everyday existence.
Choose your workshop(s): it is possible to come to any one workshop without registering for all four.
Saturday 24th October 2009 –Asana: Stretch beyond your mat
At the root of the Sanskrit word asana is the meaning to be. Much more than a set of physical exercises, asana is the first step towards engaging the mind in yoga practice, and as such, is the first step towards conscious, centred living. So during this workshop we will be learning about all the technical aspects of asana, like how to adapt postures to individual needs, and how to breathe correctly during asana practice. But above all we will be learning how to practise in a way which brings lasting holistic effects to our everyday lives, way beyond the time we spend on the mat: beyond the doing, this is a workshop about the being in asana practice.
Saturday 28th November 2009 – Pranayama: Breathe your way to health
The way we breathe both reflects and affects our state of mind, and our state of mind has a direct influence on our holistic health. The ancient yogis knew this and devised a set of breathing exercises to gain control over the breath, which they called pranayama. Pranayama is an essential tool in yoga therapy, as it plays an important role in fighting fatigue, ill health and disease. As well as leading to an exceptionally calm yet alert state of mind, this healing practice also purifies and energises our whole system. This is a workshop to learn how to obtain physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health….by breathing!
Saturday 30th January 2010 – Mend your mind: The lasting results of meditation
Meditation is a very real tool for very real people. It is one of the most powerful of all the tools yoga has to offer to bring real transformation to your everyday outlook on life, and to find the strength and calm necessary to face even the most difficult of situations serenely. A regular meditative practice allows us to live more fully, to ensure our decisions, plans, words and actions come from the heart, and are not based on the many possible klesas – fear, anger, jealousy, misunderstanding etc. Living this way brings rapid and endless improvement to our relationships, creativity, work and health. This is a workshop to discover a life changing tool.
Saturday 20th February 2010 – Yoga: Philosophy YOU can apply
More than just a set of exercises, yoga is a lifestyle. All the traditional yogic texts explain not only the different technical aspects of yoga practice, but also the conditions necessary for these tools to be effective. You can spend as much time as you like practising on your mat, but if certain principles are not applied the rest of the time, it will be to no avail. So what are these principles, and how can they be put into practice today? This is down to earth, wholly accessible, immediately applicable philosophy, a workshop for the contemporary sage inside every one of us.
Practice and Theory
Each workshop will include lectures, discussions and practices, bringing you both theoretical knowledge and practical experience.
Workshops for everybody
These workshops are as rich in revelations and experience for long-term yoga students and teachers as for beginners. The theory taught is accessible yet insightful and true to the ancient yogic texts. The practices are adaptable to your individual abilities. The only pre-requisite for participation is a desire to take things into your own hands and regain everyday health, happiness and stability.
